Yesterday was the 100-day anniversary of the U.S. economic stimulus package, otherwise known as the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act. Feel free to peruse through the 407-page Act at your lesiure here.
Speaking from the Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada, President Obama announced that over $467 million from the Recovery Act will be used to develop geothermal and solar energy throughout the United States.
Granted, the amount is a tiny pittance compared to the Act’s $787 billion price tag. But, if nothing else, the funding indicates the government’s continuing efforts to further green energy.
Although a lion’s share of the funds will go to geothermal energy projects, about $110 million will be used for solar technology research and development.
If the government continues to support the development of green energy, we should eventually start to see greater private investment in this sector.
One thing for sure, the whole green energy fad is here to stay; stay tuned. . . .
