A colleague sent a link to an article on what appears to be a huge environmental misstep.  The clothing design house Versace has decided to enter the hotel business, no problem.  But as part of the plan the company is going to refrigerate the beach in front of their new Palazzo Versace hotel in Dubai.  Details on just how this beach will work are not readily available, so there may just be a way to make this green.  Somehow, I doubt refrigerating a 130 degree fahrenheit beach will have a green option.

According to the article, each person living in Dubai has a carbon footprint of 44 tons of CO2/year.  Of course tourists drive these numbers up, and with a refrigerated beach, the new Versace Palazzo likely will not help reduce Dubai’s per capita carbon footprint.
